BRIDGE (Building Regional Interdisciplinary Dialogue in Global Early Studies)

The UCLA CMRS Center for Early Global Studies invites proposals for a new funding initiative to support small-scale, collaborative scholarly activities among CMRS-CEGS affiliates at UCLA and regional partner institutions.

The program will provide awards of up to $2,000 to support junior and new faculty (within the first 3 years of appointment) in planning interactive academic programs such as a workshop, masterclass, and teaching visits that foster engagement, encourage networking, and relationship building across the region. Programs should fall within the Center’s chronological aegis, the third to seventeenth century CE.

Eligibility and collaboration requirements:

•Proposals must include collaboration with at least one current UCLA faculty affiliate of CMRS-CEGS.

•The program (workshop, master-class, or class visit) should involve faculty from 1-2 partner institutions, with UCLA as one of the participating partners, and all costs should not exceed the $2,000 limit.

•The lead organizer should be a junior or new faculty member (within 1-3 years of appointment, regardless of rank).

Applications should include:

a) topic and a 1,000-word description

b) approximate date or quarter for the 2027-28 academic year

c) budget describing how the funds will be used and amount of funding requested

d) name of UCLA CMRS-CEGS affiliate partner and non-UCLA affiliates

e) expected outcome

All CMRS-CEGS faculty members and all CMRS-CEGS associates are eligible to apply. Proposals should be submitted by email to cmrs@humnet.ucla.edu by March 1, 2027. Please do not hesitate to contact CMRS-CEGS with any questions.
